Theta Wave and Hypnosis: How Does it Heal?
Hypnosis is:
A natural state that everybody experiences on a daily basis. The most common examples are during the moments just before you naturally wake up and the moments just before you fall off to sleep. Many people experience hypnosis several times throughout the day, even without realising it, such as during deep relaxation, focused concentration, meditation and daydreaming.
Hypnosis feels like:
Each person will experience hypnosis differently. Some will have a heightened state of awareness and will hear every sound in the room and will hear every word that is said. For some the sounds fade in and out. The majority of people will feel profoundly or deeply relaxed.
Brain wave activity during Hypnosis:
The electronic measurements of brain activity (EEG) is useful to enhance our understanding of hypnosis. Extensive research on electroencephalographs (EEG) demonstrates that the brain produces different brain waves or rhythms of electrical voltage, depending on our mental activity. There are four types of brain waves and each are measured by frequency or Hertz (Hz) per second. Each wave has its own set of characteristics, representing a specific level of brain activity and a unique state of consciousness. The four brain waves are:
Beta (13- 40 Hz)- represents the normal waking consciousness and mental reasoning, it is associated with the heightened state of alertness, logical and critical reasoning. It can also translate into stress, fear, anxiety and restlessness. You are in Beta brain wave activity right now as you read this.
Alpha (7- 13 Hz)- these waves are present in deep physical and mental relaxation, during a daydream, light meditation and light hypnosis.
Theta (4- 7 Hz)- these waves are present during deep hypnosis, deep meditation and light sleep, including the REM dream state.
Delta (0- 4 Hz)- this is the deep sleep (dreamless) state. This deep sleep wave is important for healing and regeneration.
The Alpha- Theta border (from 7 to 8 Hz) is common during hypnosis. It is when you are conscious of your surroundings however, your body is in deep relaxation.
When we’re in hypnosis, we enter the theta wave. This means our brains are making free-flowing connections and producing more mental imagery. In other words, hypnosis gets us into the theta wave, which allows us to turn inward and examine our inner worlds. A key aspect of hypnoanalysis is accessing memories where we learned and absorbed negative messages/suggestions that are currently running our subconscious mind. A recent study suggests that theta waves allow a person to more easily access memories and make free-flowing connections to the past and present. By accessing the limbic system through theta waves, we are able to mine our brains for traumatic emotional memory. At the same time, the theta waves also promote healing because they are associated with making new connections and learning. A therapist can make a suggestion while a person is in the theta wave and the brain is more likely to hang onto it.
Not only can hypnosis support clients to more easily accept suggestions and rewire limiting beliefs to upgrade and start living studies have also shown that hypnosis can actually speed up the healing of damaged tissue. Therefore, illness and health issues in the body can be supported by hypnosis to heal, regenerate, and rejuvenate the body.
FAQs
How long does a Rapid Transformational Therapy session take?
Sessions can run anywhere from 90 minutes to 2.5 hours so make sure you have the time to mentally prepare for your session and relax afterward. Experiencing RTT is a phenomenal experience and you will feel completely calm and relaxed during your session.
How does hypnosis work?
Hypnosis works by creating a burst of brain waves that are the same as when you’re in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is what happens to you just before you fall asleep. These alpha brain waves allow you to access your subconscious mind. Scientists have proven that when in this state your mind is very open to change and you are able to accept suggestions, which critical factors of the conscious mind won't accept.
Can I get "stuck" in hypnosis?
Not at all. You have complete control the whole time. You can talk, move your body, get a tissue, even get up and leave. You are completely safe and in a supportive environment.
When will I start to see changes?
There are three types of change from Rapid Transformational Therapy – every person is different:
Immediate: You feel a massive shift right away – immediate changes in your physiology, thoughts, and behaviours right in the session.
Incremental: You see consistent shifts every day, or overtime.
Retroactive: You don’t see the shifts right away and then one day you suddenly look back and see all of the things that are different in your life.
What if I think I already know the reasons behind my issue?
What makes RTT amazing is that even if you think you know what is holding you back, you see it in a COMPLETELY new way. RTT allows you to change your perspective and ultimately, change your beliefs. And for many clients, they go back to scenes that are totally different than what they expected. Just relax and trust that your subconscious mind will show you exactly what you need to see.
What if I go back to scenes that are painful or scary?
If you go back to memories from your life that are related to events like sexual or physical abuse, or other trauma, it’s important to remember that you are not reliving that scene. You are simply reviewing it, as if you a looking at it on a TV screen and you are completely safe. I will support you and create a secure space for you to express your emotions and heal in a calm and relaxing sanctuary.
What if I need or want another session?
RTT is designed to give you a powerful breakthrough and create big changes in your life. Some clients may need more than one RTT session on a particular struggle. Depending on how deep your issue is, it can take up to 3 sessions. Most want to keep doing sessions to work on other areas of their life and receive coaching to integrate their new beliefs and build new habits and behaviours. For these reasons, we offer packages that are tailored to suit your needs.
What is the difference between face-to-face and online sessions?
Online sessions are available via Zoom, and this technique is equally as effective as face-to-face sessions. Zoom is a free platform and full instructions will be provided to you when you book your appointment.
What if our online session gets disconnected?
If our online session gets disconnected, you may drift into sleep if you’re very relaxed, but eventually you’ll notice that you’re not hearing my voice and you may open your eyes. Zoom will automatically reconnect our session once the internet is up and running again. Please note, disconnections don’t happen often but are possible on either side.
